~Context~
This model classroom and reflection assignment strive to showcase the importance of classroom design. This artifact correlates to the standard in a very physical way. For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a model classroom that had a purpose. Within my design, I included aspects of functionality that ultimately benefit teachers and learners. I enjoyed making this assignment because I was able to use my creativity and make the classroom my own. I used bold colors in my design and included wall hangings that taught kids the alphabet and numbers. I had to do prior research before creating my classroom so I could make a design that included all the qualities necessary. My research led me to add a reading nook in my classroom and a learning center with computers. I learned that the teacher's desk should always be placed in an area where the teacher can see everything. This assignment was different and allowed me to express myself. Through this model, I for the first time visualized my classroom as concrete and with purpose.
~Implications~
The art of layout in regards to a classroom is intentionally designed to encourage learning and create an accessible environment. Through this assignment, I designed a model of a kindergarten classroom. Within my design, I included important aspects such as a reading nook, a learning center, and designated areas to turn in work. Functionality promotes effective teaching and understanding of the material. Having designated areas of the classroom with certain roles helps learners to have order and separation of different learning styles. In my future classroom, I will strive to create a classroom that centers around functionality and promoting learning which will ultimately help learners to grow.
